š Disc golf is becoming increasingly global - and communication about our sport should be too!
English is the working language of the PDGA, but proficiency varies widely around the world. In Europe, for example, EU data indicates that only around 47% of the population speaks English.
Thatās why the PDGA is undertaking the ambitious PDGA Disc Golf Master Glossary project.
The glossary brings together nearly 300 disc golf-specific terms, including definitions, categories, relationships, synonyms, validation status and variants in English, with translations into up to around 30 languages.
š Why does this matter?
These translations are based on existing official translations of PDGA materials - including the Rulebook, booklets, flyers and other documents - that have been reviewed and verified by people proficient in both the target language and disc golf.
The goal is to create a solid terminology foundation for improving AI-powered automated translation using tools such as ChatGPT, DeepL and Transifex.
This will help us evolve from a workflow based mainly on static translations of selected key documents toward high-quality, real-time translation of any disc golf content: rulebook updates, news, websites, video subtitles and much more.
